FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A pilot who ejected from a plane Thursday after a botched landing was captured on video at a North Texas military base.

The Marine Corps fighter jet, known as an F-35B, nosedived after a brief wheel impact on the runway at Fort Worth Air Force Base. Bystander video shows the plane slowly descending in a straight line as smoke billows from behind the plane before the nose enters the plane and the plane comes to a stop.

At the Pentagon, a spokesman said the plane that was flying at the time of the accident was carrying a US government aircraft, although it had not yet been transferred to the military by the Lockheed Martin project.
Air Force spokesman Gen. Pat Ryder, says the pilot exited the plane safely. The pilot's condition has not been released.
Chris Cook, police chief in nearby White Settlement, said about a dozen local police officers responded to the facility, where paramedics and paramedics were already on the scene after the incident. Police officers helped keep the crowds at bay by standing on the road or walking after the plane landed.

"You never want to call that there's a plane on the ground," Cook said. "We have a great location for the military in our area. White Settlement is a military community," he said.
A Navy spokesman referred all questions to Lockheed Martin, the aerospace company that makes the plane.
Lockheed Martin officials said in a statement that they were aware of the crash and believed the pilot was safe.
The plane malfunction came just over a month after two historic military planes collided during an air show about 40 miles from the Dallas airport, killing six people. A report by the National Transportation Safety Board said there was no altitude coordination in providing pre-flight information or while the planes were in the air.
